If you have no virus issues, try this:
1) Delete any unused or unnecessary programs and files. These may be taking up space, memory and resources, thus slowing your computer. Also delete your cashe/ temp files, empty your recycle bin, clear your internet browsing history, etc.
2) Check your memory, how much do you have left? If its less than 15% get some more
3) Defrag your hard drive. Fragmentation severely degrades the speed, performance and reliability of your computer. Try Diskeeper 2008, you can download 30-day trial-ware at http://www.diskeeper.com
4) Registry cleaner: Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, uninstalls etc. so this needs to be cleaned. This will optimize and remove redundant or unwanted items.
cleaning registry helps a lot to speed up computer
you can go http://www.system-tools-software.com/registry-optimizer/index.html to download a registry optimizer. it will help to fix registry errors and optimize whole system.
and then go http://www.system-tools-software.com/free-registry-defrag/ to download a totally free registry defrag to clean up your registry thoroughly.
How much RAM are you running? Add more if you have too many programs and very little Memory.
Looks like your drive could be fragmented, this often leads to slow opening of programs and lags. Run a diskcleanup and then defrag. A good defragger is Diskeeper. It defrags even if you have less than 15% free space/ can be set to run automatically even as you use the PC. You can download trial versions.
